Some people claim that the title Worlds Smallest Tree should go to a tiny plant that grows in the coldest regions of the Northern Hemisphere. Salix herbacea, or dwarf willow, is described by some internet sources as the very smallest tree in the world. It is also known as the least willow or the snowbed willow. Others see the tree as a woody shrub that does not meet the definition of a tree accepted by botanists and foresters. Definition of a Tree The definition of a tree that most tree scholars recognize is a woody plant with a single erect perennial trunk that reaches at least 3 inches in diameter at breast height (DBH)  when mature. That certainly does not fit the dwarf willow, although the plant is a willow family member. Dwarf Willow Dwarf Willow or Salix herbacea is one of the smallest woody plants in the world. It typically grows to only 1 centimeter to 6 centimeters in height and has round, shiny green leaves 1 centimeters to 2 centimeters long and broad. Like all members of genus Salix, dwarf willow has both male and female catkins but on separate plants. The female catkins are red, while the male catkins are yellow. Bonsai If you dont buy into the dwarf willow being a tree, then perhaps the tiny bonsai crossed your mind. While bonsai do, indeed, meet the definition of trees, they are not a species, as they alterations of larger trees, and can be made from different species. A person will take a cutting from a larger tree to make the miniature bonsai, which then must be carefully maintained and watered to keep its structure. Real (Short) Trees So how about a list of actual plants that meet the definition of trees that can mature at less than 10 feet tall? Crape Myrtle: This small tree comes in a variety of sizes. It can be as short as 3 feet when fully grown, making it one of the shortest trees in the world, though some can reach 25 feet. It can grow quite fast, which is why it is vital to keep in mind its mature growth size when choosing a tree. They come in a variety of brilliant colors.   ‘Viridis’ Japanese maple: The Japanese maple grows only 4 feet to 6 feet tall, but spreads out like a bush. They have a small trunk but will weep a flowing canopy back to the ground if not pruned. Pygmy date palm: A dwarf palm tree, this species grows 6 feet to 12 feet tall, and can be kept in a container. Native to southeast Asia, it is relatively drought-tolerant, but cant stand temperatures below 26-degrees Fahrenheit. Henry Anise: With its particularly dense evergreen broadleaf, Henry anise usually grows to be between 5 to 8 feet in a pyramid shape. It is known for its brilliant pink flowers and anise-scented leaves. It makes an excellent hedge.  Ã‚  Ã‚   Japanese maple: Japanese maple can grow between 6 to 30 feet tall. It grows one to two feet per year. Native to Eastern Asia and southeast Russia, this plant comes in a variety of vibrant, eye-catching colors, such as red, pink, yellow and orange.     Ã¢â‚¬ËœTwisted Growth’ deodar cedar: This tree grows between 8 to 15 feet tall.  The named comes from the twists in the limbs. The trees also have a droopy appearance. Windmill palm: This tree typically grows 10 feet to 20 feet tall. The tree is native to portions of China, Japan, Myanmar, and India. It has no cold hardiness and is only cultivated in the United States in the extreme southern states and Hawaii or along the West Coast up to Washington and the most extreme southern tip of Alaska. Lollipop crabapple: These trees grow to 10 feet to 15 feet and produce bushy, white flowers. The name comes from the fact that the tree looks like a lollypop with a small trunk like a lollypop stick and a big round bush of branches like the lollypop itself. Blackhaw viburnum: This tree grows 10 feet to 15 feet tall, producing cream-colored flowers in spring and plum-colored leaves in fall. It is native to North America. It produces a fruit that can be made into preserves. Hibiscus syriacus: This tree grows from 8 feet to 10 feet tall, and produces lavender flowers in the spring. It is native to parts of China but has been distributed throughout the world where it has various common names. In the United States, it is known as Rose of Sharon.

Effective communication process and strategies In Week 1, the foremost lecture is given about the effective business communication skills and techniques. At the very first week of the course, I came to know that professional communication is way much different from the communication process of our personal life. I was taught that all individuals need to maintain some ethics of communication process in their professional life. Honesty and truthfulness is the prime ethics that we need to maintain. Moreover, I have been taught that we need to adapt such processes or styles in our communication that it would respect the listeners. During this week the basic knowledge of the communication techniques has been discussed by the tutors. They assured that they would elaborate all the factors in the later period of the course. Several models and theories of effective communication process have been taught to us. It helped me gain primary knowledge of communication process and skills which is needed in professional career. During this week, the tutors have taught us about interpersonal communication skills which has been discussed more in the fifth week. Besides, I came to know that in a career platform I need to have knowledge of both verbal and non verbal communication and messages. I had prior knowledge about verbal communication in professional career, but I was not aware about non verbal communication process. I have learned the verbal communication process is a single channel medium, whereas, the non verbal communication is a multiple channeled process. Along with that, the tutors discussed the presence of different types of non verbal messages which we need to learn in order to improve our communication skill. However, in the later weeks, several tools and techniques have been taught to us. I would discuss those in the following sections in a sequential order. In Week 2, I have gathered knowledge about the techniques and skills involving oral presentations. During this particular course, I learned how to communicate with the audience. It has been mentioned before that I am a shy individual and thus I find difficulties in communicating with the people I am meeting for the first time. This course has helped me to deal with my fear of public speaking. In the oral presentation, the lecturers need to deliver informative speeches. This helps to make the audience understand the main theme or the topic. During this course, video clips were provided to enhance our knowledge about informative speaking. All the materials provided by the tutors helped to enhance my knowledge of public speaking skills. In this week, I came to know that oral presentation is one of the vital activities in professional life. The lecture provided in this week discussed three forms of public speaking which include impromptu presentation, extemporaneous presentations, and ve rbatim speeches. During this course time, I was able to indentify my weaknesses in public speaking. As I have a fear of speaking publicly, I need to improve in all forms of public speaking. Some tutorial activities were conducted in order to improve skills in oral presentation. Due to this learning process, I have experienced that I have been improving my communication skills and thereby reducing communication apprehension. Furthermore, I also gathered awareness about certain factors that affect the communication apprehensions of individuals. I have gathered brief knowledge about these factors so that it would help me indentify those factors that might affect my skill in professional life. I need to improve the novelty of situations and that defines that I need to deal with my fear of increasing level of uncertainty. In most of such situations, I do not know how to react or how to covey my message to others. During this week, several tutorial activities and lectures helped to overcome my communication apprehensions. The most effective strategy that was learned in this course was that individuals need to tell themselves that they can achieve success. Moreover, before giving any oral presentation I used to tell myself that I can do better. I have noticed that I can improve my oral presentation skills by focusing only on success and ignoring the fear of speaking. Still, I need to improve further as the tutors addressed that more improvement is required to create a better position in professional life. In order to do so, I need to write a speech before preparing for the presentation. Sometimes, I forget the things I need to speak in the oral presentation because of my fear of speaking. By writing the speech, I can go through it several times that would help to gain confidence and remember the contents as well. Further, it would help me organize the entire presentation. As per the tutors' gui dance, I have learned how to write speech and organize the presentation. This helped me to prepare for the final presentation. Thus, I would use this technique further in my career platform so that I would be able to deal with my fear and anxiety. Moreover, in this week, the tutors delivered the lecture on importance of evidentiary support in oral presentation. I came to know that after preparing the speech, I need to add some evidentiary support in order to improve the skill of communication during presenting the presentation. This technique helps to personalize the information and increases the weight of the presentation. In the last few days of that week, the tutors taught us about the effective process of ending the presentation. It has been noticed that the listeners or audiences fail to remember what they have heard in the entire presentation. I have been taught in the course that it is essential to help the audience keep the same interest throughout the presentation. Thus aft er completing the main speech, I can highlight the main points at the end of the presentation. Through outlining the main points, I would able to help the audience in recalling the entire discussion. During Week 4, the genres of written business communication have been taught to us. In this week, I have learnt that written business communication is different from the verbal business communication. It is essential to make the readers understand what I have written. The spoken words are noticed in the spot of delivering speech and then disappeared unless it is recorded and transcribed. On the other way, the conversation made in the written communication process remains unchanged. Thus, the tutors taught us to concentrate more on the written skills. This tangible form of communication helps us to make it clearer what we cannot do in the verbal communication process. During this particular week, I came to know about the proper format and writing style of employment letters and resumes. This the first stage of communication we make with professionals before entering in the career platform. Besides, the tutors have explained that email writing is quite different in the professional platform. During this week, I have learnt about email writing and communication skills through emails. In this particular week, a lecture was given on recognizing the difference between the intrapersonal and interpersonal communication skill and process. I came to know that intrapersonal communication defines the process of communication that we do with ourselves. In contrast, interpersonal communication process is done with one or two other people. In order to be more specific, I gained the knowledge that the intrapersonal communication process is the internal conversation where personal thoughts, feelings and emotions are involved. However, the tutorial activities primarily focused on providing knowledge about the interpersonal skills which is also known as the dyadic communication. From the tutorial discussion, I came to know it is way much different to communicate with other people than communicate with own self. During the course, I came to know that, it is important to identify the aggressive communication process along with the types of verbally aggressive messages. From the lecture given to us, I came to know that the aggressive communication process can be both general and situational. Some people are there that carry aggressive dominant style of communication all the time, whereas, some people are there that adapt aggressive nature during certain situations only. After gathering the knowledge, I have compared it with my communication skill and have realized that aggressive behavioral nature is not present within me. The situational aggressive communication process sometimes happens when confronting some unacceptable behaviors. Thus, I need to improve my communication skill in such situations so that I would able to handle those situations in a better manner. Furthermore, nine types of verbally aggressive messages are discussed in the course that helped me to understand what I should avo id in communicating with others. Apart from this, I came to know about the passive communication process for which I am able to identify the passive communication behaviors. During this course, I came to know that I am a passive communicator as I am unable to state opinions and beliefs with much confidence. During the course, I came to know that this nature might make me face trouble in the workplace as other people would tend to take advantage of my low confidence of not doing any task. The socio communicative orientation defines the way through which we are able to know about our own communication behaviors in terms of three traits that include assertiveness, responsiveness and flexibility. In context of explaining my own communication skill, I would state that low assertive, high responsiveness and low flexibility is present in my communication style. Furthermore, I have learnt about different types of supportive and defensive communication behaviors. Through the lecture given, I came to know that I need to adapt both the supportive and defensive communication skills that would help me in my professional life. However, I need to understand which one is needed more in enhancing interpersonal skills. It has been discussed during the course that defensive communication is control oriented, whereas supportive communication is problem oriented. I have a high degree of supportive nature which I need to reduce to some extent. Along with that, I need to improve my defensive communication skills as it is the strategic nature of combination process. Conclusion By writing this assignment, I am able to tie up all my observations regarding my communication skill. After observing myself, I realized that I was an individual with a shy demeanor before attending the course and this might create barriers in my professional life. This particular course has helped me to deal with my fear and anxiety of public speaking. During the first week, I have learnt the basics about the communication process in professional life and the importance of its effectiveness. The basic concept helped me to prepare myself for acquiring further knowledge. During the second week, I have learnt about oral presentation. This was the biggest fear that I carried before attending the course. This course helped me to obtain enough confidence in preparing as well as delivering presentations. However, I need to improve more and for this I am practicing on a daily basis. In addition, the tutors taught about the ways of increasing the effectiveness of presentation. By learning al l the processes, I have enhanced my knowledge of communication skill in context of delivering speech and presentation. In the fourth week, I was taught about the written communication techniques and skills. During this week, I came to know that the written communication process is different from the verbal one. In the fifth week, I have gathered a brief knowledge about the interpersonal communication skill which has a vital role in the professional career. Along with that, I came to know about the difference between interpersonal and intrapersonal skills. The knowledge I have acquired during this course helped me to improve my communication skill. Spring Morning by John Clare, and Coldness In Love by DH Lawrence Essay The two poems A Spring Morning and Coldness In Love both have a common theme of love, but talk about vastly different aspects of that one emotion. An obvious contrast is that in A Spring Morning, John Clare talks of the positive aspects of love, and how it feels to be in love, while in Coldness In Love, DH Lawrence talks of the pain that can be experienced by someone who was once in love, but has been cast aside by his lover. Another obvious contrast between the two poems is that they are set in contrasting seasons, as Clares poem is set in spring, hence the title A Spring Morning, while Lawrences poem is set in winter. A clear comparison between the two poems show that they both use pathetic fallacy to reflect the mood, attitude and feelings that they have towards both love, and also what love can do to people. In the poem A Spring Morning, Clare describes the act of falling into love, and how once in it all appears to be perfect. He does not talk of a specific case of falling into love, but talks of the general feelings that one can experience when they are in love. As the poem is generalised, it lacks a definitive story-line, which contrasts with Coldness In Love, which talks of a specific case of someone (most probably Lawrence himself) having difficulties in love, and being cast aside by his lover. A Spring Morning is obviously set in spring, and the imagery used in it describes all of the positive aspects of love, without talking about any of the problems that sometimes occur between lovers. An example of the positive imagery Clare uses to describe the feelings of love are shown in the below quotations: Fresh are new opened flowers, untouched and free From the bold rifling of the amorous bee. I think that the words untouched and free from the above quotation could give a possible motive for why Clare wrote the poem. This motive could be Clare trying to describe the first time that he has fallen in love. This idea is also supported by Clare saying Fresh are new opened flowers, which could talk about girls reaching puberty, and becoming more womanly. Clare also uses some sexual imagery to describe love, and spring, as he uses the words rifling of the amorous bee to describe having sexual intercourse. He also tries to describe spring as being virginal, as he describes the flowers (possibly referring to young women) as untouched and free. The fact that Clare only seems to describe the positive aspects of love could dismay some people from enjoying the poem, as they might find the poem to be too one-sided and also too generalised, as Clare never mentions a specific person who is in love. Coldness In Love contrasts sharply with this, because it talks of a very specific case of someone being in love, and the troubles that they encountered whilst they were (or maybe still are) in love. The poem is extremely negative about the feelings one can experience in love, which again may give the poem a minority appeal of other people who have at one time or another been cast aside by their lover. However, this poem is much more realistic than A Spring Morning, which may appeal to some people as they will appreciate Lawrences honesty in the poem, and feel sympathy for him, as he suffered much pain during the relationship that he described. An example of the negative imagery Lawrence uses to describe how he feels towards love I shown in the quotation below: The sea and the sky went grey, as if they had sunk A flocculent dust on the floor of the world: the festoon Of the sky sagged dusty as spider cloth, And coldness clogged the sea, till it ceased to croon. Lawrences attitude towards love is obviously very negative, as shown by the first line of the above quotation. He talks of how The sea and the sky went grey, which could be referring to love abandoning him, and taking all of the colour, pleasure and meaning out of his life. The above quotation also shows Lawrences negative attitude towards love, as he says that the sky sagged, which again could refer to the meaning being taken out of his life, and what life he has left has slowly started to collapse in on him. Coldness In Love is set in winter, as the season reflects the feelings that Lawrence describes. The cold described in the title is shown by the winter weather, which is always cold. Lawrence describes the feelings that he felt when he parted from his previous lover with a passion, showing that the pain he felt was still very vivid during the writing of the poem. Throughout the poem Lawrence also describes trying to recover his lost lover, but to no avail. The coldness described throughout the poem could show how much Lawrence missed his lover, and how he was not complete without her. This could be so, because the opposite feeling of warmth is associated with being content, and the lack of that warmth could signify his lack of contention now that he is alone. The following quotation shows this clearly: But still to me all evening long you were cold, Egyptian Poetry EssayI also think that the poetic devices that Lawrence has used, especially the deliberate clumsiness allow him to communicate his pain and grief with the reader very well, as it allows the reader to understand what frame of mind he must have been in to write such things. I find that A Spring Morning is too generalised in its references to love, as it does not talk of the love of a person, or animal or anything like that, but just gives a general overview of what love is. I also find that Clare has a far too one-sided view of love, and what people experience when they are in love. This seems far too unrealistic, as nobody has the kind of love that he describes a love that is totally perfect without any compromise or pain. Clare talks about a very traditional love, which could be as he wrote the poem in the early nineteenth century, while Coldness In Love was written in the early twentieth century. Also, I find that Clares poem is far too controlled, which shows that it must have been thoroughly planned and I feel could not reflect his true mood when he was writing it, which contrasts to the way I feel about Lawrences poem. Lawrences poem seems to be very passionate, even though it has some structure to it, such as all of the stanzas being of a certain length (five lines). However, Lawrences poem is punctuated very heavily, which severely disrupts the flow of someone reading it, as the punctuation is not regular, such as a poem that has mainly end-stopping (such as A Spring Morning), but has a combination of punctuation including end-stopping, enjambment and caesuras. I also feel that Coldness In Love is a far more effective poem to read and appreciate, because it has a clear story-line to it, while A Spring Morning doesnt. Clares poem talks about a generalised feeling of being loved or being in love, while Lawrences poem takes the reader on a journey. Coldness In Love talks about how Lawrence immediately felt after losing his lover, and about how he pined to have her back into his life for a period afterwards, before finally being able to move on. The last couple of lines of the poem show that Lawrence was ready to move on, as shown from the following quotation: With cold, like the shell of the moon; and strange it seems That my love can dawn in warmth again, unafraid. The very last word, unafraid helps to give a finality to the poem that even though Lawrence has experienced torment after the end of a relationship, he has dealt with his emotions, and the fact that he is ready to move on after this gives the reader some hope for the future, especially if they have also experienced traumatic relationships themselves. I think that Coldness In Love involves the reader much more deeply then A Spring Morning, as Lawrence communicates his feelings in reference to love much more clearly through his use of language, particularly the heavy, uncontrolled punctuation and harsh alliteration, combined with the specificity of the poem. Lawrences use of poetic devices convey his pain with the readers, which give him a wider appeal, as everyone experiences some degree of grief in their life with reference to the termination of a n important relationship. I think that Coldness In Love is vastly more realistic in the way it describes love in comparison to A Spring Morning, which describes an idyllic love where everything is perfect, which does not appeal to me. It also appears that Clare is somewhat detached from the subject matter he describes in his poem, which gives the poem a lack of sincerity, which is the absolute opposite to Coldness In Love. In Lawrences poem, there is no doubt that the emotions Lawrence describes are what he actually felt when his relationship was terminated, as he describes his feelings in much more detail. The details he gives, and the similes and metaphors that he uses to describe the way he feels give depth to his poem, which make it feel much more sincere. I think that Coldness In Love is a vastly more effective poem than A Spring Morning, as Lawrence communicates more with the reader, due to his detailed descriptions, and clever use of language. His poem seems far more realistic than Clares poem, as it allows the reader to feel real emotions towards the subject matter, while the emotions that Clare describes seem a little too gleeful to allow the reader to involve themselves fully. Coldness In Love has a greater deal of individuality as a poem over A Spring Morning, which describes love in a vague, hazy way, which contrasts with the specificity and detail of Coldness In Love.
